How to obtain a fishing license.
 

What does it mean to have a fishing license? Where are the advantages?

The term „fishing license“ is a general expression comprising the official fishing license as well as all short-term licenses and annual season licenses.

Basically speaking line fishing is a matter of the respective country, thus, an official fishing license is necessary for each federal province of Austria.

The official fishing license makes it possible for you to obtain a license (short-term or annual season) from the respective manager.

Fishing license regulations valid in the various federal provinces:

[ Lower Austria ]

Guest licenses:

  • Costs € 11,00 per license
  • Persons from the age of 10 up.
  • Guest license valid for 30 days per year
  • Issue by the manager

    Official fishing license:

  • A fishing course has to be completed or the corresponding aptitude to be proved, which will also be acknowledged if the person in question has owned an official fishing license for Lower Austria at least once within 5 years prior to the fishing law for Lower Austria of 2001, having come into effect on May 1st, 2002; for persons having completed a professional training or in case of a relevant training in another country, it is not necessary to attend a fishing course – if a basic course should be necessary refer to www.noe-lfv.at.
  • Costs for first issue € 10,00. Following year € 23,00 per license.
  • Persons from the age of 14 up (no previous convictions).
  • Validity for one calendar year.
  • Issue by the district administration.
  • Fishing licenses for other federal provinces or countries will not be acknowledged.

[ Vienna ]

Guest licenses:

  • Costs € 4,72 per license.
  • Persons form 14 years up.
  • Fishing license valid for 3 weeks.
  • Issue by the Vienna fishing board.

  • Costs for 1 year € 11,62, for 3 years 24,70 per license.
  • Persons from 14 years up (no previous convictions).
  • Validity for one or 3 calendar years.
  • Issue by the Vienna fishing committee.
  • Fishing licenses of other federal provinces or countries will not be acknowledged.

[ Upper Austria ]

Guest licenses:

  • Costs € 22,53 per license.
  • Persons from 12 years up.
  • Fishing license always valid for 3 weeks, however, only twice a year.
  • In addition to the fishing licenses the license book is necessary where the licenses will be registered, costs € 13,00 per year.

    Official fishing license:

  • Costs for first issue € 17,44 per license. Following year € 10,17 per license.
  • Persons from 14 years up (no previous convictions).
  • Validity for one calendar year.
  • Issue by the district administration.
  • Fishing licenses of other federal provinces or countries will be acknowledged.

[ Styria ]

Guest licenses:

  • Costs € 2,50, otherwise in form of a book with 20 licenses, available from the district administration, costs € 45,90.
  • Persons from the age of 14 up.
  • Fishing license valid for 4 weeks.
  • Issue by the Austrian Fishing Association for their rivers or by the day license sales point as single license.

    Official fishing license:

  • For first issue a fishing exam has to be passed successfully at the relevant district administration according to § 9 Stmk. FG (fishing law).
  • Costs € 26.- per license, by money order yearly, otherwise € 60.80.
  • Persons from14 years up (no previous convictions) are legally entitled to obtain a fishing license.
  • Validity for one calendar year.
  • Issue by the district administration.
  • Fishing licenses of other federal provinces or countries will only be acknowledged if a fishing exam is compulsory in the respective province; up-to-date information on the provinces concerned can be obtained from the relevant district administration.
