River Thaya
 
The river Thaya near Waidhofen is a silicate river. The types of fish that can be found there are carps, pike perch, pikes, eels and all types of whitefish.

The north-western part of the Waldviertel is drained by the river Thaya. This slowly flowing river is divided by weirs and terraces, the river banks are mostly natural. The valley is sparsely populated.

This area which is managed together with the fishing club of Waidhofen/Thaya, is 23 km long, the river width is between 20m and 30m.

The dedicated fishing addict may choose among day licenses, licenses for two days, weekly licenses, monthly licenses and anual season licenses.

It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license for Lower Austria.
