The area Salza Gschöder reaches from Presceny Klause to
200m below the „Bärenbach“ bridge. A respective
board at the left-hand river side announces the end of the area
which is 9km long and 30-40m wide.
In this area the river Salza is a Salmonid water every fisherman
engaged in fly fishing can only be dreaming of, the more so as the
river banks are easily accessible. In autumn, when the water level
is low, long gravel beds jut out of the water, which makes fishing
for graylings, the dominant fish in this area, most agreeable.
Also Charles Ritz had known this area very well and it is not without
reason that he considered it one of the best grayling areas all
over the world. The fish stock of the river Salza Gschöder
comprises 70% of graylings, 20% of brown trout and 10% of rainbow
trout. The fishing tackle admissible is the fly rod with artificial
fly. The popular day licenses are only available in very restricted
number, moreover, on previous reservation only.
It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license
for Styria.
