The river Piesting Gutenstein reaches from its source at the Schneeberg as far as Pernitz. The large number of side brooks providing excellent natural spawning grounds, contribute to a river system of more than 60km in length, 15km of it being admitted for fishing.

The fish stock comprises almost exclusively wild trout as no stocking has been provided for in recent time. The number of licenses is low in order to preserve the exclusiveness of this area.

It is compulsory to have an official fishing-or guest license for Lower Austria.
