Situated south of St. Pölten the river Pielach follows the
course of the Mariazellerbahn (railway to Mariazell).
It is one of the best Salmonid rivers of Lower Austria. Its length
of 50km is divided into five sections reaching from the region of
the brown trout to that of the grayling and barbel.
The lower parts are well stocked with danube salmon. A great number
of side brooks used for breeding guarantee optimal quality of young
fish. Only fly fishing is permitted.
In order to maintain the high quality of the fishing river, day
licenses are only available in restricted number.
It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license
for Lower Austria.
