The area of the river Mur is situated in northern Styria and
extends from Thalheim as fast as Knittelfeld, almost 24km in length.
Besides rainbow trout and brown trout the graylings are prevalent.
Being one of the last danube salmon area with natural fish stock,
this area is specially attractive , which is proved by a number
of trophy fish being caught each year. The impression of this area
is characterized by 15km of flowing water, 4km of impoundment area
and 4km of residual flow stretch with each stretch having its own
character and its own fish stock.
Fishing is carried out with the fly rod and the spinning rod respectively
with artificial bait. One danube salmon each may be caught per annual
season license.
It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license
for Styria.
