The river Mürz is a typical river at the foothills of the
Alps with natural reproduction of brown trout and graylings. The
structures are acceptable to a large extent, however, separated
by power stations. By-pass channels have been constructed for all
power station terraces or are being planned. Within the range above
Wartberg some sections of the river Mürz have been left untouched.
The area begins above the power station of Mitterdorf extending
as fast as Wartberg above the local bridge across the river Mürz
(marked by resp. boards). The area has an overall length of 4km.
There are no side brooks. Fishing is permitted in the diversion
channels.
The fish stock in the river Mürz comprises 50% of brown trout,
30% of rainbow trout and 20% of graylings. Only the rainbow trout
is being stocked in order to extend the fly fishing season. The
initial stocking with graylings from the river Schwarza has been
extremely successful! The fishing tackle admissible is the fly rod
with artificial fly, barbless fishing is recommended! The daily
number of fish that may be caught must not exceed 5 fish, only 2
graylings and one Salmonid of it with a length of more than 45cm.
The number of licenses to be obtained is strictly limited. For members
and guests day licenses are available from May 1st to October 15th.
For licensees with annual season tickets the fishing season starts
on March 16th and lasts until December 31st.
It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license
for Styria.
