The river Leitha near Deutsch-Brodersdorf is a border river between the federal states of Lower Austria and Burgenland.
Our licensees are allowed to fish in the river from the Lower Austrian side which means the left bank of the river.
Because of a mutual agreement with our neighbours from the federal state of Burgenland it is allowed to offer the bait on the whole width of the river bed.
Our section of the river lies in the transitional zone between the reaches of the grayling (Thymallus thymallus) and the barbel (Barbus barbus) and has a width of about 20 metres. It has a typical diversity in fish grounds with approx. 70% salmonids and 30% carp-like fish such as barbel and chub (Leuciscus cephalus). The population of the indigenous carp (Cyprinus carpio) receive especially careful attention within the bounds of the Kotzenmühle reservoir. The high occurrence levels of nutritious organisms such as water fleas (Cladocerans) and the larvae of caddis flies (Trichoptera) have enabled large trout (Trutta trutta) to establish themselves in reaches of loose stones. The river bed is essentially made up of a fine grained gravel, meeting the environmental requirements of the grayling, which will initially be out of the season for the whole year.
The stretch of the river for angling begins at the village boundary of Deutsch-Brodersdorf and is about 5.5km long. Downstream the village boundary of Seibersdorf marks the end of the fishing area. In the lower reaches angling for licence holders is permitted up to the top of the weir of the Kotzenmühle power station.
The fishing regulations provide a lot of possibilities for angling.
It is compulsory to be in possession of a valid official fishing permit or visitor´s card for the federal state of Lower Austria.
