The river „Fischa Dagnitz“is the home river of the
mayfly! It is a special gem among the rivers belonging to the Austrian
Fishing Association with its large beds of plants reminding of the
chalk rivers in South England.
The special efforts made in this connection make every fishing
day a special adventure. The main season of mayfly fishing is above
all the first half of June. The very river section belonging to
the Austrian Fishing Association is divided into three areas named
Pottendorf, Unterwaltersdorf and GramatNewsiedl, each easily accessible.
The side brooks as well as the „Old Fischa“ are protective
areas where brown trout are especially cared for close to nature.
The river is known for its well grown brown trout. The fishing
season starts on March 16th and ends on December 31st; annual season-
and day licenses are available. The main part of the river belongs
to the political district of Baden and can be reached from the federal
capital of Vienna by car within approx. 30 minutes. Meeting point
of fishermen is the „Mina Tant“ (Aunt Mina) , a nice
inn at Schranawand where flies, floats, etc. can be bought, rods
can also be hired on request.
It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license
for Lower Austria.
