| Since the turn of the century, the Austrian Fishing Association
(ÖFG) has been managing this right-hand bank Danube area situated
in the district of Langenschönbichl, extending as far as fairly
below the new bridge across the Danube of Tulln.
This fishing ground comprises approx. 5 km of impounded river Danube
plus approx. 2 km of the river Perschling and approx. 22 ha of Danube
back water. The latter had formerly been the main bed of the river,
which had been separated from the main river, first by the regulation
of the Danube and afterwards by the construction of the power station
at Greifenstein. These areas are famous for their wonderful back
waters, perfectly protected against disturbances of any kind by
a zone of wood and reed.
Extended fields of water lilies provide a special attraction for
these natural habitats and excellent living conditions for the fish.
Special attention has been paid to the Salmonid fish stock. Giant
pikes, pike perches and wels are being caught regularly. The above-mentioned
back waters also provide the habitat for extremely large carps.
They are easily accessible by small boat from your berth.
The limited number of annual season licenses and the possibility
to do night fishing wels from July to September have made a license
for this area a special attraction. Whereas annual season- and day
licenses are obtainable for the main river, only annual season-
and guest licenses are available for the old river arms.
It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license
for Lower Austria. |
