Donau Aggsbach right- and left-hand banks

The left-hand bank of this Danube area situated in the Wachau and belonging to the global cultural heritage is connected to the Danube area Danube I/8 – Emmersdorf – Grimsing – 3,7km in length. The right-hand bank begins at about 1,5 km above the mouth of the Aggsbach, 5,5 km in length. In this area the natural structures could be preserved with long gravel banks providing adequate spawning areas for our Danube fish. In the deep rock holes there are giant Danube salmons coming from the river Pielach where they still can find their natural habitats.

The number of fish corresponds to the capacity of Danube fish stock with carps and pikes being maintained by stocking. About 50% of carps are stocked as wild carps, the rest are breeding carps, up to a maximum of 2-sö (2 summers` age). The reproduction of pike perches in this area is still satisfactory and therefore need not be stocked, giant fish weighing up to 9 kg prove the favourable conditions for this spiny fish of the perch family.

The number of licenses available is strictly limited. Day tickets for tourists may be licensed from June 1st to September 30th (until October 31st for our members). From October 15th especially tough guys are able to get a day license for Danube salmons valid for all Danube areas , fishing in back water, however, excepted.

It is compulsory to have an official fishing- or guest license for Lower Austria.
